If you dropped a multi-channel file onto a track, what would you expect to happen? PH's answer is: no matter how many channel the file has, let's create as many new tracks as necessary (with ID8 devices, as tracks have to be attached to a device) users can then dispatch the clips wherever they want. The thing is, MIDI files can be multi-channel. There's some debate about that, and it's quite a complex problem. There are times that I had to write in parts that I thought I should have played with a mouse, add cymbal crashes, and even change/alter some fills, it's some of these parts where I didn't actually play, that sound the most unnatural.Another question.why is it that whenever I drag in an EZ Drummer midi block, it creates a new piano midi track rather than dropping in the EZ Drummer track I just created? You can hear my e-drumming in my song link below if interested. I have to do a fair amount of correction midi editor still, but I like the end-results better than starting off with those pre-made midi rhythms. Even though I'm not a 'real' drummer per say, I've had my eKit for over 10 years and can pound out a beat well enough for my personal home studio needs. 'Playing' to a song gives a 'tailor made' feel, naturally right out the gate. This is because though they're great, they don't exactly follow the 'vibe' of the music, and need a lot of editing to get it to fit. There are other 3rd parties such as Groove Monkey that work great with Toontrack.Īside from recording real acoustic drums of course, in my own experience, a more 'realistic drum performance' can be realized best by playing my eKit, even better results that using those excellent midi drum rhythms within programs like EZDrummer. The Toontrack presets are horrible.not in quality but content. IMO the Toontrack grooves are over priced so do wait for a sale. You could go straight to Superior, but you could also be overwhelmed.
#Route ezdrummer midi upgrade
If and when you aren't satisfied with EZX upgrade to Superior. If you aren't satisfied then upgrade to EZX. Again, I don't think the OP has given enough information for what he is after.Īs mentioned in a prior post. Maybe not so much for sound compared to acoustic agent, but all the other elements that have been mentioned in prior posts. Toontrack goes WAY beyond where Cubase 8s groove agent is today. But that might not be necessary depending on his goals which he hasn't stated other than "more real sounding drums using midi." In addition to better samples and more velocities there is mic bleed for realistic accoustic drum recording. The OP still has not explained his specific goal or the type of drum tracks he is after. There is even a session drummer here on this forum who did some of them for Toontrack. The Toontrack midi grooves were recorded by real drummers.
#Route ezdrummer midi software
The midi software has nothing to do with how real you can get itMaybe I don't understand what you mean. It really depends on your track and your audio objectives. But remember maybe flexibility isn't a good thing for you as it can be distracting, or difficult to learn. My default mixer has 16 channels reserved for mic inputs.Īs said earlier, Superior offers much more flexibility than any other drum application I know of. Compression, gating, verb sometimes gated, verb with pre-delay.or no processing at all.depending on your audio objectives. All of those mics go into a mixer for further processing. At least with traditional drum recordings. With Superior (which emulates all these mics and gives you control over bleed) you can often get a more authentic sound. For example you have a mic inside the kick drum, a mic on the outside of the kick drum, a snare mic under, snare on top, ambient mics and overhead mics. If you are trying to get rock track, especially classical 70's those can only get you so far before you discover elements are just "not how you want them to sound."įrom my standpoint the most real acoustical drum recordings are done in the traditional recording studio method. Is this a pop track? Jazz? Rock? If you are doing a Katy Perry type track just do it in Groove Agent, Battery, or Kontakt. I think you need to explain your audio goals. What else can you do? For drum rolls it can be pending the the type of roll. How would you process the drum track? or would you do two or three separate tracks so you can process them differently like a real drum set?ĬheersIt sort of sounds like you answered your own question. What else can I do? What I know I can't do is the drum rolls and also when it comes time to mixdown. I use varied velocity and try not quantize my notes 100% so that some are slightly off axis and also use the quantize function to get some swing.
